D/FW Blues History Week was the brainchild of Don O., the dean of Texas Blues Radio, heard every Friday night on KNON FM 89.3. Don put together a week-long series of short lectures by local historians and live performances by area musicians that showcased some of the important figures in the blues history of Dallas-Fort Worth. The list of names of those who have had significant impact on blues music in North Texas is long, but since time and distance were constraints, the week was dedicated to Blind Lemon Jefferson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the historic location of Deep Ellum, T-Bone Walker and Freddie King.
Thanks to author Dr. Robert Uzzell (Blind Lemon Jefferson: His Life, His Death, and His Legacy), author Craig Hopkins (The Stevie Ray Vaughan Anthology), author Jay Brakefield, with Alan Govenar (Deep Ellum and Central Track: Where the Black and White Worlds of Dallas Converged) and to speakers Sumter Bruton (T-Bone Walker), Don O. (Robert Johnson) and Wanda King (Freddie King).
And thanks to our great Dallas musical performers who brought the memories alive: KM Williams, Mighty Paul Young, Kenny Stern, Robin Bank$, Sonny Collie, Texas Slim and Tutu Jones.
